Workshop on "An Overview on GST"

Event Report

Five days Workshop on "An Overview on GST" was organized by the Department of Management Studies, PET Engineering College, Vallioor from 25-09-2019 to 29-09-2019. Mr. S. Muthu Kumar Raja, Practicing Advocate in Tax Law and corporate Law, The Institutes of Chartered Public Auditors of India, Tuticorin. was the resource person for this workshop. 33 students from second year had attended the workshop.

The inauguration function held on 25-09-2019 at 10.00 a.m started with Quirath rendered by Mr. Mohammed Rasik. M, Second year student of MBA Department followed by Tamil Thaai Valtthu. Ms.B.Kalai Nandhini, Second year MBA student welcomed the dignitaries and the participants. Mr. K. Samuvel Saravanan, HOD, Department of Management Studies introduced the resource person. Dr.N.Mohammed Sheriff, Principal, PET Engineering College, delivered the inaugural address and handed over the session to the resource person. The resource person started the session by explaining the short tutorial on GST. He explained in detail about Goods and Services Tax, Goods and Services Tax Network, Overview of GST Legislation.

In the afternoon session the resource person explained the basics of GST, Types Of GST, history of GST,Registration under GST and its applications.

On the second day the resource person explained the “Destination Principle” in which GST is based on and in the afternoon GSTN, Input Tax Credit discussion was conducted.

The third day the resource person started the session by explaining the GST Audit and Annual return, and in the afternoon he demonstrated those using few examples.

The fourth day the resource person explained the IGST Calculation, Compliances under GST and in the afternoon calculation for IGST with few examples were conducted.

The fifth day the resource person explained which type of tax is this GST through power point presentation and in the afternoon session he explained types of taxes with few examples. The students enthusiastically participated in the session. Test session was conducted, to know the level of understanding in this 5 days certificate program. Out of 33 students, 33 Students have cleared the test.

The valedictory function was attended by our honorable Principal Dr. N. Mohamed Sheriff and Mr. K. Samuel Saravanan, Professor & Head of the Department and Ms. J. Uma Bharathi Assistant Professor, MBA Department were presided the valedictory function. Some of the participants expressed their experiences in the workshop. The resource person, the principal and the HOD distributed the certificates to the participants. The function ended with vote of thanks by Ms. Jerisha, second year student MBA Department who expressed his gratitude towards all the dignitaries, participants and all other helping hands, which contributed towards the success of the event.

  • To create the knowledge of Legal perspective and its practices to improvise the business.

  • Legal insight will be established in the business practices according to the situation of changing environment.
