A debate on the topic "Drug addiction a habit or a disease" was conducted at PET Engineering college as part of a state wide program on Drive Against Drug (DAD) was launched by the honourable Chief Minister to create awareness against drugs abuse amongst students. The Principal Dr. K. Madhan Kumar presided over the program. The students belonging to different disciplines participated with vigour and enthusiasm. They were divided into two teams and one team argued that drug addiction is a habit and the other team argued that it was a disease. At the end of the team the judges Mrs. Bagavathy Lakshmi Ammal, HOD/English, Mr. Eugine Paul AP/EEE, Mr.J.Bose, Librarian validated the points of the students and proclaimed that drug addiction is a habit and not a disease.

To justify, it was mentioned that drug addiction is something which a person with the right ethical attitude can abstain from, anticipating its adverse effects. The habit should be stopped before it becomes an addiction which further leads to disease and finally proves fatal. Every debater was cheered by the audience for their presentation and sharp arguments. The management team the managing Trustee Mr. A. Shahul Hameed, Secretary Mr. S. Khaja Mohideen, Mr. S. M. Jamaludeen appreciated the students for their logical arguments and also brought to limelight some of their points regarding the evil effects of drug addiction. The program was graced by the head of the departments and other faculty.

At the end of the function the head of the department of EEE Mrs. R. Kalaiselvi thanked the audience. The awareness program was coordinated by NSS Program officer Mr. Rajesh AP/EEE.
