The Department of Civil Engineering at PET Engineering College concluded a two-day workshop on the "Design of RCC Structures with Manual Load Calculation" aimed at enhancing the industry readiness of its Civil Engineering students. The workshop featured practical sessions, , and hands-on project work, aligning with the college’s commitment to equip students with real-world engineering skills.
In the inaugural session the welcome address was given by Ms. Mahameena, a second-year Civil Engineering student. Dr. K. Madhan Kumar, Principal, presided over the event. Ms. Asha, a final-year student, introduced the event's resource person Dr. Mohamed Shibullah, AP/Civil, a seasoned professional with a rich background in both industry and academia.
The Head of the Civil Engineering Department, Mr. T. M. Mohamed Usman, delivered the vote of thanks, while program coordination was led by Assistant Professor Mr. V. Ruban Daniel.
The highlight of the first day was Dr. Shibullah's keynote address, which focused on the nuances of RCC design through real-time project examples. His session covered essential skills in structural detailing, documentation, and client communication. They also provided students an overview of critical software tools like ETabs, STAAD Pro, and AutoCAD for precise structural analysis. On the second day, students were divided into teams to work on project plans, allowing them to apply their knowledge practically and the teams presented their designs for evaluation.
